At an event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Speak Mandarin Campaign, Prime Minister Lee Hsein Loong warned that Singapore was losing its bilingual edge as other countries catch up. He noted that 71% of Chinese households with Primary 1 children speak mostly English at home today. This is a sharp increase from 42% two decades ago.
At ChildFirst Pre-school, we believe that the best way for children to foster a second language is to be immersed in an environment with the language. That is why our bilingual programme is designed to be half-day English and half-day Chinese daily. During each half day, children are immersed in an environment where only one language is used for communication and learning. Through the Chinese language immersion, children become confident in using the language to communicate and express themselves.
Don’t take our word for it, read our parents’ testimonials below and sign up for a school tour to see our children immersed in learning Chinese.
