ENGLISH (half-day immersion daily)
Phonics and Reading
From 18 months to 3 years old, we emphasise listening, speaking and expanding vocabulary. This is achieved through activities like show-and-tell, role play and music and movement. Phonics and pre-writing exercises are also introduced to strengthen children’s communication skills.

Show-and-tell
Starting at 4 years old, children begin learning to read and write sentences through our phonics and reading programme. As they grasp the connection between spoken sounds and written letters, they become proficient readers. Exposure to various books prepares them for creative writing and journaling where they are encouraged to express themselves effectively and develop legible handwriting. In addition, the K2 children gain confidence in public speaking through presentations to the school community.

Literature Alive!
While most pre-schools focus on teaching phonics and reading, we take it one step further at ChildFirst. In our Literature Alive curriculum, we aim to instil a deep love for the English language and ignite creativity in children. We introduce various literary genres that enrich vocabulary and develop language skills. Through exploring classic literature and engaging in activities like creative writing, reflections, discussions, and role-play, children not only learn to read but also develop their imagination and self-expression.
Role Play
As children progress, we introduce them to diverse poetic styles and encourage them to write poetry, further enhancing their language skills and creative expression. Through literature, children are transported to new worlds, encounter extraordinary characters and embark on exciting adventures, fostering their imagination and curiosity.

AI for Creativity
At ChildFirst, children are not just reading stories; they are crafting their own with AI tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E. They write the story together with ChatGPT, alternating pages. They then draw illustrations, like flying cars and unicorns, inspired by the story and use DALL-E, a picture-generating AI, to enhance their drawings based on prompts. This process helps them unleash creativity and develop advanced cognitive skills for future success in school and beyond.
The story has many pages but we would highlight two of the pages written by children here.
“There will be five seasons in the future. Summer, spring, autumn, winter, and candy seasons!” How creative!”
Rather than fearing that generative AI might stifle creativity, we have found that it can boost it when humans collaborate with AI. Our children have even used DALL-E to envision the future of Singapore.
